Description
Veer Surendra Sai (1809–1884) was a prominent freedom fighter from Odisha who led early revolts against British rule in Sambalpur and continued his guerrilla warfare until his death in captivity in 1884, after spending decades in jail, including his final years in Asirgarh fort. Born in 1809 to a Sambalpur royal family, he actively opposed the British, supported the downtrodden tribal people, and became a folk hero and leader who inspired many across the region.
