The Panchayati Raj system, particularly after the 73rd Constitutional Amendment in India, provides a framework for rural women’s involvement in local governance and development by reserving seats in local bodies. This participation has led to increased political and social empowerment, a focus on grassroots development issues like health and education, and a reduction in corruption and violence against women. However, challenges like proxy leadership, financial constraints, and social stigmas persist and hinder true gender equity and effective development.
