Description
Synopsis
Based on a major research project, this is a comprehensive study of the Gorkhaland movement and its dimensions. It focuses on the resurgent Gorkhaland Movement in the new millennium. Collecting information through direct interaction with the leaders and the people of the Darjeeling Hills region, it provides insights into the nature, leadership, pattern of participation and methods of mobilisation of the movement. It deals with the rejection of the leader of the erstwhile GNLF and the Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council formed in 1988, the violence that followed and elusive peace, and the agreement of July 2011 with a new promise of peace and development.
