Description
While human security is best understood as the well being of citizens, civil society represents the space between the government and the people. Civil society organizations and the state are both working for providing human security at different levels. But, how has the relationship led to improved human security? How has the relationship influenced the state, civil society or human security? How has this relationship coped with new structures like regional organizations such as ASEAN or SAARC and how is this likely to evolve in the age of information technology and the right to information where the citizen is much more informed? How is civil society itself changing and how has civil society coped with the reality of ethnic, religious and other conflicts that are going on in our region? This book which brings together papers presented and the discussions held at the seminar, is a definitive contribution to a broader understanding of the issues involved.
