About the Book
The historic rebellion in 1857 is a significant landmark in the annals of Indian rule-continent. Several causes have been attributed to this great event during the last days of the rule of the East India Company. The rebellion spread like wild-fire in several regions and the Indian soldiers and civil population showed much patriotic zeal and enthusiam. The role of Rani Lakshmibai of Jhansi, Tatya Topi and numerous others is really remarkable and highly appreciable.
The Chapters are eleven in number. These have deep bearing on Lord Dalhousie’s administration, Indian Society, turning point in Indian history, the national upsurge, nature of the Mutiny,its comm-encement, end of Company rule, India under the Crown, effect of the Mutiny, the Act of 1858 and Indian Councils Act of 1861.
About Author :
Dr.S.R. Bakshi is Ph.D; D.Litt in Modern Indian Hitory and is the authro of several works on Indian nationalism and freedom movement. He has deep links with numerous institutions of research. He is the participant in national and international seminars. He is at present engaged in constitutional developments covering the periods of East India Company and India under the Crown.
