Description
Minority literature in English refers to the literature produced by minority groups using the dominant language (English), a concept defined by Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari as literature characterized by the deterritorialization of language, a direct engagement with political issues, and a collective value. This concept highlights how a minority group, rather than a minor language, can “minorize” the majority language itself, transforming it into a means of resistance and creating a new, hybrid language of expression
- The concept of minority literature was first introduced by philosophers Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari in their work on Franz Kafka. They used Kafka, a German-speaking Jewish writer in Prague, as an example of a writer creating a minority literature within a major language (German).
